Home Modification Request Process

At Bend-Redmond Habitat for Humanity, we understand that homeowners may want to make updates or improvements over time. To help protect the value, appearance, and safety of our neighborhoods, exterior or structural changes to your home or property must be reviewed and approved before work begins.

When You Need Approval

A Home Modification Request is required for projects that change the exterior appearance, structure, or site of your home. Examples include:

  • Painting the exterior of your home

  • Installing or replacing fences, sheds, patios, or decks

  • Making significant landscaping changes (especially if they affect drainage or easements)

  • Building additions or structural changes

  • Projects that require permits or contractor work

When You Don’t Need Approval

You do not need to submit a request for:

  • Interior painting, decorating, or cosmetic updates

  • Replacing flooring, light fixtures, or appliances

  • Routine maintenance or small repairs that don’t change the exterior structure

How to Submit a Request

  1. Complete the Home Modification Request Form with as much detail as possible — including materials, colors, site plans, and contractor information.

  2. Email your completed form to homeownership@brhabitat.org.

What to Expect

  • Homeowner Services reviews your submission for completeness and compliance with design and community standards.

  • Requests involving construction are also reviewed by the Construction Team for feasibility and safety.

  • You’ll receive an email once your request is approved or if additional information is needed.

After Approval

  • Approved work must begin within 1 year and be completed within 6 months, unless an extension is granted.

  • Homeowners are responsible for obtaining any required permits and ensuring that all work is completed by licensed, bonded, and insured contractors.

  • Projects must follow the approved plans and comply with all applicable codes and policies.
