Dear Opportunity Maker:

At a time like this we see so clearly the value of your support and our mission of providing stable and affordable housing. During this time of uncertainty with the COVID-19 virus, we know that the people we serve still deserve an opportunity to own a home of their own. Over the past few months life has been shaken up a bit, some of our families have lost a job or have had their hours reduced, others have been necessary workers and so their income has been steady. Maybe you can relate to this yourselves as well.

We know that for many, home is something familiar, where memories are made, laughter and family time are encouraged and safety is felt. We know our program is still needed, maybe more than ever, and we want to be able to continue to serve so many in our community who need a chance at a better life.

The Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund has agreed to match $50,000. And to maximize this gift, we would like to ask you to give your best gift possible. For every $50 or $100 donated, it will be matched up to $50,000 by this generous Foundation. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by Aug 15! Would you consider helping us to reach our goal?

Your investment will build foundations. The funds you donate will support our NW Cottages neighborhood for 10 families in Bend. This highly desirable, west side property was donated by a local developer 3 years ago and all 10 homes will be Net Zero. As for many years, our homes will meet Earth Advantage Platinum standards but on these homes we will be adding active electrical generation with PV panels. As Cottage Code dictates, each home will be 1200 sq. ft. or less and have garages. The site will also have shared community space. Our hope is to begin construction soon. Would you consider donating to help make that possible?

Helping families like Clara’s. At the age of 16, Clara left home and began her search for stability. She was constantly on the move, uprooting her life in search of things she thought would bring her purpose and happiness. It wasn’t until the birth of her daughter, 5 years ago, that she realized just how much stability she needed for their home life. The challenge was that every time they had to move from an unaffordable or unhealthy rental situation, the hope of providing a stable home became further out of reach. Thankfully, a friend who had recently purchased a home through Habitat, suggested she check out the Homeownership Program. Over the past 1 ½ years, Clara has worked hard in her day job in the beauty industry, completing her sweat equity, taking financial education courses and has been a great asset to the Habitat team. She and her daughter are looking forward to being new homeowners in the not so distant future. Will you donate today to make homeownership a reality for families like Clara’s?

Please consider making a generous donation that will have twice the impact by being matched. We look forward to hearing from you and we are always appreciative of your partnership.

Warm wishes to you,

Scott Rohrer Executive Director

PS: The CARES Act now allows taxpayers to deduct up to $300 of their cash donations to qualifying organizations without itemizing deductions. Your gift, along with The Maybelle Clark Macdonald Fund, will help Bend-Redmond Habitat double the impact by helping local families build brighter futures starting with affordable housing.
